Cuba contin\u00faa enfrentando una presi\u00f3n cada vez mayor por parte de Estados Unidos, en medio de una severa escasez de combustible provocada por medidas que bloquean el suministro de petr\u00f3leo, incluido el proveniente de Venezuela. Canad\u00e1 anunci\u00f3 que planea enviar ayuda a Cuba, siguiendo pasos similares adoptados por M\u00e9xico. En Belize, el ex ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Assad Shoman, ha instado al gobierno a hacer lo mismo.<\/p>\n
Esta noche, la embajadora de Cuba en Belize, Yahima Mart\u00ednez Mill\u00e1n, asegur\u00f3 que, aunque la presi\u00f3n se ha intensificado, el pa\u00eds no est\u00e1 paralizado. En el contexto de la reuni\u00f3n de l\u00edderes de CARICOM en San Crist\u00f3bal y Nieves, Mart\u00ednez reafirm\u00f3 los lazos hist\u00f3ricos con la regi\u00f3n. \u201cOur relationship with CARICOM and also with Belize is historic. While other see the region as a political, Cuba sees it as home\u201d. Destac\u00f3 adem\u00e1s el apoyo del bloque caribe\u00f1o en la denuncia del embargo.<\/p>\n

Reconoci\u00f3 que se trata de tecnolog\u00eda costosa y dif\u00edcil de implementar bajo el bloqueo, pero asegur\u00f3 que es una prioridad nacional.<\/p>\n
Finalmente, confirm\u00f3 que Cuba contin\u00faa diversificando sus relaciones econ\u00f3micas. \u201cFor many years, Cuba has worked in order to diversify our relations. We are strengthening ties with the BRICS bloc for example. And also we are working with partners in Asia, Europe and Latin America\u201d. Cuba enfrenta una crisis creciente y, seg\u00fan el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, el gobierno cubano est\u00e1 fallando. Esto ocurre tras un aumento de la presi\u00f3n por parte de la administraci\u00f3n estadounidense. Despu\u00e9s de la captura del presidente venezolano Nicol\u00e1s Maduro en enero, Trump declar\u00f3 una emergencia nacional y calific\u00f3 al gobierno cubano como una \u201camenaza inusual y extraordinaria\u201d, acus\u00e1ndolo de albergar esp\u00edas rusos y de dar la bienvenida a grupos como Hamas y Hezbollah.<\/p>\n
Las sanciones estadounidenses han bloqueado env\u00edos de petr\u00f3leo hacia la isla, agravando la escasez energ\u00e9tica. A inicios de este mes, el primer ministro John Brice\u00f1o expres\u00f3 la solidaridad total de Belize con el pueblo cubano y advirti\u00f3 que la reducci\u00f3n del suministro de petr\u00f3leo podr\u00eda provocar un desastre humanitario fabricado.<\/p>\n
El ex ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Assad Shoman, respald\u00f3 esa postura y fue m\u00e1s all\u00e1. Asegur\u00f3 que si la estrategia de Estados Unidos tiene \u00e9xito, personas en Cuba morir\u00e1n. Dijo: \u201cThe whole purpose of their threat against Cuba, their sanctions, so called sanctions. It is not an sanction. It is an evil act that is done to people because you are sanctioned because you did something wrong. No, they have not done anything wrong\u201d.<\/p>\n
A\u00f1adi\u00f3 que Cuba est\u00e1 siendo castigada \u201cunduly, irrational and illegally\u201d y afirm\u00f3 que el objetivo es provocar sufrimiento para forzar un cambio de gobierno. \u201cAll of that is done in order to make the people suffer so much that they will overthrow the government. Shoman sostuvo que esta pol\u00edtica ha sido condenada repetidamente por las Naciones Unidas. \u201cThat is a policy that has been condemned by the United Nations over thirty times in the last few years\u201d. Tambi\u00e9n calific\u00f3 las nuevas medidas como una amenaza directa. \u201cThis additional thing which amounts to a death threat, Hipolito. That is what the United States is doing now. It has issued a death threat against Cuba, against the people of Cuba. That is a death threat. If that succeeds, and obviously they want it to succeed people in Cuba will die\u201d.<\/p>\n
Consultado sobre si Trump tiene raz\u00f3n al considerar a Cuba una amenaza, respondi\u00f3: \u201cHe is absolutely wrong. There is no question about that or that Cuba is a terrorist state or anything like that. These are things that are made up\u201d. Cit\u00f3 adem\u00e1s a expertos de la ONU que el doce de febrero se\u00f1alaron que describir a Cuba como una amenaza extraordinaria carece de credibilidad y parece dise\u00f1ado para justificar poderes coercitivos.<\/p>\n

M\u00e9xico ya detuvo sus env\u00edos, aunque ha enviado ayuda humanitaria, y Canad\u00e1 analiza hacer lo mismo. Shoman critic\u00f3 el silencio de varios l\u00edderes caribe\u00f1os y cuestion\u00f3 que se invite al Secretario de Estado estadounidense a la reuni\u00f3n n\u00famero cincuenta de Jefes de Gobierno de CARICOM.<\/p>\n

A\u00f1adi\u00f3 que, aunque no espera una condena formal de CARICOM por temor a represalias, al menos deber\u00edan enviar asistencia humanitaria. \u201cPeople are dying. People are suffering. People who are our brothers and sisters. They are part of our region\u201d.<\/p>\n
