{"id":83147,"date":"2026-02-22T14:11:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T20:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greaterbelize.com\/?p=83147"},"modified":"2026-02-22T14:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T20:11:10","slug":"caye-caulker-rejects-perezs-sand-for-marl-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greaterbelize.com\/caye-caulker-rejects-perezs-sand-for-marl-proposal\/","title":{"rendered":"Caye Caulker Rejects Perez\u2019s Sand-for-Marl Proposal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greaterbelize.com\/perez-rejects-claims-that-he-is-neglecting-caye-caulker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caye Caulker<\/a> Village Council (CCVC) has rejected the proposal to exchange sand from the island for white marl to support street works in the Bahia Puesta del Sol area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a press release, the council confirmed that Area Representative Andre Perez discussed transporting white marl to Caye Caulker to help open streets, in exchange for sand from the council\u2019s designated burrow site to be taken to Ambergris Caye.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the council said that no agreement was reached, stating that Caye Caulker&#8217;s sand is \u201ca valuable and limited natural resource\u201d that must remain for the long-term benefit of residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The council went even further and questioned white marl\u2019s suitability for streets, as it has proven inadequate in Ambergris Caye during wet conditions, &#8220;often resulting in roads becoming impassable&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also pointed out that dredging could directly affect fishermen who operate near the proposed site. \u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greaterbelize.com\/perez-accuses-zetina-of-blue-koncas-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caye Caulker Village<\/a> Council respectfully requests that our Area Representative honor and respect the decision made by both the Council and the wider Caye Caulker community,\u201d the council said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAny contribution toward the development of Caye Caulker should be made in the best interest of the community and without conditions or exchanges involving the island\u2019s natural resources,&#8221; it added<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Caye Caulker Village Council (CCVC) has rejected the proposal to exchange sand from the island for white marl to support street works in the Bahia Puesta del Sol area.
