The United Democratic Party is intensifying its criticism of Belize\u2019s regulatory landscape, first accusing BTL of withholding key data and now taking aim at the Public Utilities Commission<\/a> for what it calls silence in the face of a major proposed acquisition. UDP Leader Tracy Panton argues that weak oversight has left consumers unprotected and competition at risk, urging Belizeans to hold regulators accountable as the debate over market power grows louder.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They have a responsibility to preserve fair competition. They have a legal responsibility to prevent monopolistic practices and perhaps, most importantly, to prevent abuse of a great market power.
