As that case moves forward, another high\u2011profile murder trial also intensified in Belize City, where Elmer Nah was ordered to stand trial after his no\u2011case submission collapsed in court. Justice Nigel Pilgrim delivered a swift blow to Nah\u2019s defense today, taking just twenty seconds to reject his no\u2011case submission and ordering him to face three murder charges. Nah then spent twenty-seven minutes in the dock, insisting he wasn\u2019t the shooter and repeating, as he put it, the \u201cold clich\u00e9\u201d, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t me.\u201d He denied any role in the killings and said enhanced video footage would point to the real killer. He urged authorities not to \u201cfeed the family with lies\u201d and ended with, \u201cI am here to speak the truth\u2026 so help me God.\u201d Nah called no alibi witnesses, despite previously relying on his cousin during the voir dire. Key evidence already admitted includes the statement of main witness Vivian Ramnarace, boots police say were found in Nah\u2019s pickup, and a headlamp allegedly worn during the murders. Dr. Lynden Jones, Nah\u2019s attorney, shared brief comments after the court\u2019s decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we got the decision for the no-case submission. The court overruled our application for a no-case submission. The details of that overruling will be given at a later date, in writing. This morning was short. It was put to our client that he could remain silent, he could give a dock statement or he could take the stand. Our client had taken the stand before in the voir dire and that evidence is being incorporated into the main case. Therefore, he decided to give a dock statement. In that dock statement, he was bringing up about the boots, the different colors of the boots that had been brought out in evidence. The chip that contains the original videos of the shooting\u2026 that went missing. And, additionally, he was saying about the tattoo, that they were trying say that he had just put on the tattoo, but he placed it to October 31st<\/sup>, 2003, here in Belize. Therefore, after he gave his dock statement, now we must do closing submissions to try and finalize this case.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
