Police in Punta Gorda say their investigation into the disappearance of Canadian national Alfred Pleil is heating up, with several major developments now on the table. Investigators have found personal items belonging to Pleil and have detained multiple people as they work to piece together what happened. Still, officers are keeping tight‑lipped about key details, like whether any bank cards were recovered or if a prime suspect has emerged. Speaking to reporters today, ASP Stacy Smith emphasized that while the team is making headway, the case remains delicate and very much active.

Reporter

“Was his, this is not me asking the same question in a third way, was the credit card discovered any at all?”

ASP Stacy Smith

“What I will say is that a number of items being the property of mister Pleil was discovered during the course of the investigation.”

Reporter

“I’m going to use this term. Do you believe that police may be hot on the trail of who may have had anything to do with his disappearance.”

ASP Stacy Smith

“It’s an ongoing investigation. As the investigation continues to develop, the media will be advised of the progress.”

ASP Stacy Smith says investigators are making steady progress, but with sensitive clues still coming in, police are keeping details close as they continue tracking down what happened to Alfred Pleil.

It’s the kind of news every parent hopes for, a missing child found safe. Thirteen-year-old Lissy Suntecun is back with her family today after three agonizing days of uncertainty. She vanished on Monday afternoon after leaving school, and for days, her loved ones had only one clue: a white pickup truck seen near the school. In a desperate search for answers, Lissy’s father took matters into his own hands and his determination paid off. He tracked down the vehicle in August Pine Ridge, leading police to a shocking discovery: Lissy was safe, but in the company of a relative who never informed her parents. Tonight, we hear from police and Lissy’s grandmother, Oralia Rosado, as the family breathes a sigh of relief.

It’s been over twenty-four hours since thirteen-year-old Lizy Suntecun vanished from her school compound in San Jose Succotz—and the search is growing more urgent by the hour. With no leads and no sign of the young girl, her family is clinging to hope, while residents of the village have rallied together, forming search parties to help bring her home. Lizy, who lives in Melchor, Guatemala with her mother, crosses the border daily with her younger siblings to attend school in her father’s village. But what started as a routine school day took a troubling turn when she reportedly left the compound during lunch, telling friends she was going with an aunt. Since then, nothing. News Five’s Paul Lopez traveled west today to find out more. Here’s his report.

Paul Lopez, Reporting

It’s now been a two-full day since thirteen-year-old Lizy Suntecun vanished from the San Jose Roman Catholic Primary School, and concern is growing. According to the school’s principal, Jenri Castanaza, Lizy was part of the school’s lunchtime feeding program and had no reason to leave the compound during lunch hour. But somehow, she did and hasn’t been seen since. As the hours tick by, the search intensifies and questions mount: how did she slip away, and where could she be

Jenri Castanaza

                        Jenri Castanaza

Jenri Castanaza, Principal, San Jose R.C. School

“Lizzie who is a part of our feeding program sat in school and had lunch. We usually keep our back gates closed at tis time since we only have one school warden. She waited until twelve forty-five when we opened the gate since other students are returning from home and that was the time when she walked out of the school compound and left. When we noticed she was missing, the class teacher informed me that she was not in class and we immediately reportedly it to the parents, because it is not normal for her to go missing since she is a part of the program and does not leave to have lunch anywhere else.”

School officials say Lizy left through a back gate that’s usually unsupervised during lunch, telling a friend she was going with an aunt. But she never returned. Now, her family and authorities are zeroing in on a white pickup truck that witnesses say she was seen entering just outside the school compound. As the hours pass, her loved ones grow more desperate, hoping for any sign that Lizy is safe.

Oralia Rosado

                 Oralia Rosado

Oralia Rosado, Grandmother of Missing Child

“The principal went to classroom to ask if you have seen Lizzy and one girl say, Lizy told me that at twelve forty-five her aunt will come and get her. But she does not have an aunt. I don’t know why she say that. I don’t know why there is a person who take her. From now it has been two days and we have nothing if somebody take her, we don’t know that.”

Reporter

“What have you all done over the last two days in your search for her?”

Oralia Rosado

“In that day we went straight to Corozalito because there is a person who has a pickup, a white pickup and we speak to the lady she say she does not have any children going to standard five. She told us about her friend that lives at the back. When we reach there the house was closed and plenty dogs so we don’t go. We informed the police. I know a CIB was speaking to the mother like two hours and a half. They called the father speaking to him again and from then the police, nobody has done nothing.”

Lizy lives in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala with her mom. She and her two siblings travelled across the border daily, with the assistance of their dad in village, to attend school. A small group of village residents, led by Armando Cocom, formed a search party today in support of the family.

Armando Cocom

                     Armando Cocom

Armando Cocom, Resident, San Jose Succotz

“Like how you say it has struck the community. The community is mourning right now. They are suffering with the family and any assistance given to them would be really appreciated. It is very sad that this is happening in our beautiful village. It is not the first time I am doing this, I have helped other families sin regard of this matter. I have kids and I would not like something like this happening to anyone of my kids. We need to take this and try and assist the families, because it is a serious matter and we should be working together and assist the family in this matter.”

The San Jose R.C. School compound is not equipped with surveillance camera. According to principal Castanaza, monitoring sixty children participating in the feeding program is a challenge for the kitchen staff, a hand full of teachers who stay behind and a single school warden. Principal Castanaza says the entire school is shocked and saddened by Lizy’s disappearance, while acknowledging the need for increased security on the compound.

Paul Lopez

“There are reports of a white vehicle. Did anyone from the school, perhaps one of your teachers, saw her enter a white vehicle?”

Jenri Castanaza

“Unfortunately, no one saw her leaving. The only reports I have received is from the classmate who told me the people waiting on her was in a white vehicle. According to the student, it was a female, a male and a child that was in that vehicle.”

Oralia Rosado

“We ask the people all over Belize, make they help us. If somebody see something please call me. My number is six, six, one, fifty-eight, fifty-five.”

Tonight, the search continues, and the questions only grow. Reporting for News Five, I am Paul Lopez.

Tonight, there’s a developing and deeply concerning story out of western Belize. A desperate search is underway for thirteen-year-old Lizzie Suntecum, a primary school student who vanished from the San Jose Roman Catholic School compound on Monday afternoon. Lizzie, who was supposed to remain on campus for the school feeding program, reportedly told a friend her aunt would be picking her up just before one p.m. But when she didn’t return to class, the school quickly alerted her family. Lizzie and two of her siblings make the daily cross-border journey from Melchor to attend school in San Jose Succotz, a routine that’s common in the area, but one that adds a complex layer to this already troubling situation. Her mother is from Melchor, while her father’s family lives in Succotz. We spoke with Lizzie’s grandmother by phone earlier today. Here’s what she had to say.

On the Phone: Oralia Rosado, Grandmother of Missing Child

“We went to see the principal what happened and the principal say they don’t know nothing, only the children saying that she told a student that at twelve forty-five her aunt will come and get her. When the teacher noticed she hadn’t come in class, the principal call the mom and from hat time we hear she disappeared. I know there is a warden and the school has camera and they say that they don’t see her. Only the students saying that she told her that 12:45 her aunt will come and get her, but she don’t have any aunt, only the man have an aunt in San Felipe named Sandra and she was around this weekend. I don’t know if she takes her.”

Paul Lopez

“And the school since they have a warden and cameras, you suspect they would have seen when she left the campus?”

On the Phone: Oralia Rosado

“The principal knows that the children in the feeding program they don’t go out from school, they stay there. How they will not know what happened. The person that has her, please release her. We are desperate. Thank you.”

This afternoon the family was informed that Lizzie was seen using the restroom at Westrac in Roaring Creek Village. They have since made their way to the business establishment to request surveillance footage. We will continue to follow.

A Belizean national has gone missing from his home in Mexico, and his family is urgently appealing to the public for help in bringing him back safely. Twenty-nine-year-old William Milan was last seen by his mother on April nineteenth at their shared home in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. According to her, Milan entered his room and shortly after, vanished. We spoke with his sister, who shared that the family is at a loss, unsure of where he might have gone or if he was in danger.

On the Phone: Sister of William Milan

“He just  went to buy his food and then returned back to his room.”

Britney Gordon

“So they didn’t see him leave his room?”

Sister of William Milan

“Nope. He come from buying his food, then he get inside his room and from that entering he made, he never made it out again.”

Britney Gordon

“And did your mom hear anybody else enter the house or hear sounds outside?”

Sister of William Milan

“No. Miss the neighbors also tell my mom that they no see they no hear nothing.”

Britney Gordon

“Do you guys  know if there’s any reason why anyone would want to hurt him? If maybe that’s the case or was he known to wander?”

Sister of William Milan

“No, miss my mom say that he went to cut cane and from cutting cane he go and goes to his room, buy his food and lock himself. He don’t have no friends. Yes, he smoke, he drinks, but he was not a person that will go and do bad things.”

Britney Gordon

“Okay. And do you think there’s any possibility of him possibly running away or just going to live somewhere else and not telling you guys?”

Sister of William Milan

“No, because all his stuff are there in his room, even his chain. And my mom told me too that they found some blood stains in his room, in his blanket, in his working boots. If somebody see him or know about something, because I don’t know what happened in that room. If he come and cross the river and come here and he’s afraid and doesn’t want to reach to us, but staying away from us because of afraid, fearing for his life. So, I don’t know, miss.  I don’t know what to say because it’s an emotional feeling, not knowing where he gone. What happened to him.”

A man is missing at sea near Tobacco Caye in Stann Creek after disappearing around eight PM on Tuesday night. Thirty-three-year-old Jeremy Mushlar was fishing in a dory with three others who were in a separate boat. When the others decided to head back because the fish weren’t biting, Mushlar chose to stay out longer. That was the last time he was seen. His younger sister, Kaia Mushlar, told News Five that while the family doesn’t want to judge anyone, the details they’ve received are inconsistent. She said they learned on Wednesday that Jeremy had been fishing at Tobacco Caye for four days until he vanished on Tuesday night.

Kaia Mushlar

                       Kaia Mushlar

Kaia Mushlar, Sister of Missing Man

“Jeremy went out to go fishing by himself Tuesday the 15th of April at approximately 8:00 p.m.. He was in a blue dory that did belong to his previous friend from Dangriga that was lately murdered on Ramos Road on the 23rd of March.”

Marion Ali

Who’s that?

Charles Bradley

                    Charles Bradley

Kaia Mushlar

“That would be Charles Bradley, also known as Short Man. So according to the information that we have received, Jeremy went out in the blue dory. He was, according to the three people who were in a boat that saw him out there, he was drinking and he was lying at the bottom of the dory and he was told three times by them that he was drifting and he told them that he still wanted to go ahead and stay out and try to catch some fish. Since the three in the big boat stated that fish weren’t biting, they went ahead and headed back to the caye. They then told us that around 11:00 p.m., they decided to go back and check on Jeremy and they went back to the same spot where they had last seen him, and they didn’t see him anywhere.”

Marion Ali

“Now these people, are they his friends? Are they his associates?”

Kaia Mushlar

So, one of them is his girlfriend’s brother, and the next two are friends that live around the same area as him, his friends? Yes, that’s correct.”

Marion Ali

“Do you have any reason to believe that foul play was involved in his disappearance?”

Kaia Mushlar

“Well, I don’t really wanna say too much at this time, however, the details that we have been receiving have been very inconsistent. And we believe that something definitely fishy is happening and we just hope that we’re able to get to the bottom of this.”

Marion Ali

“The friend that was murdered just a month ago on Ramos Road, do you think that has anything to do with his disappearance?”

Kaia Mushlar

“Well, again, I don’t want really wanna say too much, but we had heard from sources that it was supposed to be Jeremy and him that were supposed to get shot that morning, that thanks to God, Jeremy wasn’t around him at that time, so he was the only one that unfortunately it happened to.”

Marion Ali

“And if that is the case, why would anybody want to hurt your brother?”

Kaia Mushlar

“Again, due to – we live way here in Belize City and he lives in Dangriga you know, we aren’t really around him much to see, you know, what he’s doing or to be a judge of that. However, as far as I’m concerned, my brother has never had any issues with the police, nothing like that. There was an incident a while ago that happened that my brother did end up in the hospital for that incident, and I just hope that it’s not that issue again.”

Marion Ali

“Was he shot?”

Kaia Mushlar

“No, he was stabbed.”
