Forty three year old Marlon ‘Tiny’ Usher lost his life in a stabbing on Sunday night, a confrontation his family believes spiraled out of accusations over a woman, and tonight, they’re grieving a hardworking son and provider taken far too soon. News Five’s Shane Williams has the story.

Shane Williams Reporting…

Grief now fills the Usher family yard, after forty‑three‑year‑old Marlon Usher was stabbed to death Sunday night outside his usual hangout on Dorris Brooks Crescent. Trouble had been brewing since Friday, when a man confronted him over accusations involving a woman. Neighbors thought the argument had cooled, but it flared back up when the same man returned with a knife and attacked. Usher collapsed in the yard and died on the way to the KHMH, leaving his mother, Brenda Usher, devastated.

“How they wa kill my lee bwai weh da wa hard working boy? Weh work every day? They wa kill my lee boy fi wa woman but ah noh wa di call name but I noh know if da that but that da part ah it.”

Brenda Usher is still recovering from a stroke, but now she’s facing an even heavier burden, finding the strength to bury her son, the premature baby she once nicknamed ‘Tiny,’ who grew into a kind, hardworking man she says never looked for trouble.

Brenda Usher

“He da wa nice person. He wa laugh. He da like the lee clown and di give the jokes. Yes, he wah got yo the laugh although yo vex sometime with ah. Although ah vex sometime with ah and ah the rail up with ah fi left lone them woman. Find yoself wa good gyal weh want yo and you want ya. And ah neva done til a mek they separate. And ah tell the gyal to ah tell left lone my son because da lee bwai wa kill my son because da lee bwai da wa murderer. Ah noh fraid fi she it.”

Shane Williams

“And now you have to bury your son while you’re still recovering from a stroke. How will you deal with this?”

Brenda Usher

“I noh have no kinda thing fi seh money fi bury my son  soh I would want ask the public or anybody weh want help me fi please come help me.”

Police are looking for one suspect as they investigate the fatal stabbing.

ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

“Police are seeking one male person  in connection with the fatal stabbing of forty-three-year-old Marlon Usher, which occurred around nine fifteen p.m. on Sunday, February twenty-second. What we know so far in the course of this investigation is that Usher was walking on Dorris Brooks Street when he was accosted by the suspect who inflicted the fatal injuries to him.”

Through tears, she says the accused is someone who grew up around her family, a painful reality that makes the loss even harder to understand.

Brenda Usher

“I know the person good. The person grew up with them, with my children them. That person grow with them, come up with them and that person I could call ih name because da {suspect name} killed my son, but one thing I got to tell {suspect name} ih wa turn inna ih own traps. Ih gwen inna ih own traps. We noh wa du ah nothing. Ih gwen mess with the wrong person and that waw eh wa happen cause when yo do bad, bad follow yo.”

Neighbors along Arlington Drive and Dorris Brooks Crescent say Marlon Usher was the go‑to handyman who never hesitated to help with a job, but tonight he leaves behind a young daughter and a mother recovering from a stroke who now has to plan his funeral. Shane Williams for News Five.

A domestic dispute turned violent over the weekend, leaving a woman hospitalized and a mother and son behind bars on attempted‑murder charges. Thirty‑eight‑year‑old Prunella White and her nineteen‑year‑old son, Jermaine Belisle, were arraigned today in Belize City. Police say the pair attacked White’s girlfriend, thirty-six‑year‑old Samira Gentle, during an argument at their Central American Boulevard home early Sunday morning. According to investigators, White allegedly chopped Gentle with a machete while Belisle stabbed her with a knife. Gentle was rushed to the KHMH in critical condition with multiple wounds. Because of the seriousness of the charges, no plea was taken and no bail was offered. Both were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until February twenty-fifth. Police say White later turned herself in and admitted in a recorded interview that she chopped Gentle. A knife, a machete, and blood samples were collected from the scene as evidence.

A night of drinking turned into a bloodbath in Belize City, leaving a woman fighting for her life and her former partner in police custody. Just after midnight on Sunday, police rushed to a residence on Central American Boulevard following reports that a woman had been brutally stabbed and was being rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. When officers arrived, they found thirty-six-year-old Samira Gentle lying unconscious on a bed, her body bearing multiple chops and stab wounds. ASP Stacy Smith says no charges have been brought so far because the perpetrator was unable to cooperate with police at the time.

Stacy Smith

                       Stacy Smith

ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

“Police were alerted via the control room that a stabbing occurred at the residence. And that the female, namely Ms. Gentle, was being rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The investigators proceeded to both the location of the incident as well as the hospital. At the location of the incident, it was processed by scenes of crime technicians. Items of evidential material were retrieved. What we have learned so far in the course of this investigation is that Gentle was at the residence on Central American Boulevard when a dispute arose, which resulted, which escalated into a physical confrontation, which resulted in her injury. Police have detained one person of interest as a part of this ongoing investigation.”

Shane Williams

“Are charges expected to be levied on this individual or is this individual making any claim counterclaim?”

ASP Stacy Smith

“The last I heard in relation to this situation is that she was not in a state to provide information as she was intoxicated. However, as more information is learned, that will be shared to the police.”

Shane Williams

“And any update on the condition of the victim?”

ASP Stacy Smith

“She’s still listed in a critical condition.”

Police in the Toledo District are investigating a violent incident that left two brothers injured and their sister detained in the early hours of Sunday. One of the victims was found unconscious with injuries to his neck, while the other suffered wounds to his face.

Authorities said Roberto Pop reported that the attack followed an argument with his sister after the group had been socialising in San Antonio Village. He alleged that when he and his brother tried to leave, their sister refused and later attacked them with a broken bottle. Police have since detained the 27-year-old sister in connection with the incident.

The incident has stirred strong reactions online. Some believe alcohol may have played a role, recalling how drinking has often led to fights. One Facebook user said, “Two drinks and my father, a Maya man, would be stone drunk and want to fight anybody and anything.” He added that in the past, “the PG jail was full of my people trying to chop up each other, and the next day they get out hugging each other.”

Tonight, residents of Bullet Tree Falls are reeling after an elderly woman was found stabbed to death outside her home. She is Marty Thorne, owner of Raw Spa Cabanas, and a well-known member of the community. She was discovered with several stab wounds early this morning by one of her employees, promoting a police investigation. This incident follows a home invasion that occurred on Friday, where one resident was tied up and robbed of his vehicle and other possessions. As of now, police are still piecing together what could have led to Thorne’s tragic death. News Five’s Britney Gordon reports.

Britney Gordon, Reporting

What began as a peaceful Monday morning in Bullet Tree Falls quickly turned into a scene of shock and sorrow. An employee at the popular Raw Spa Cabañas made a chilling discovery just outside a residence, his boss, Marty Thorne, the spa’s owner, was found dead near her home. Authorities say she suffered multiple stab wounds, up to eight in total. The community is reeling, and police have launched a full investigation. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith shared more details about this tragic incident.

ASP Stacy Smith

                               ASP Stacy Smith

ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

“Police are investigating the death of sixty-five-year-old Canadian National Marthy Ann Thorne, which occurred in Bullett Tree Village Cayo District. The incident occurred sometime around seven-thirty a.m. today, when the care taker of a property owned by Ms. Thorne reported to police that upon visiting that area he called out to Ms. Thorne but was not able to locate her. He made further checks on the property and that is she was located in the yard with visible injuries to the body. The scene was processed, and the body of Thorne now awaits a postmortem examination.”

Thorne, a Canadian national, had been living in Belize for several decades and had become a familiar face among the Bullet Tree community. Michael Waight, neighbor and long-time friend of Thorne, is devastated by the news.

Michael Waight

                           Michael Waight

Michael Waight, Friend of Deceased

“I got the news this morning because the caretaker that work with her and come and tell me that there’s  blood and he want me to come and see. That’s when I heard in news about it. We didn’t know what was happening so I told him not to interfere. Call the police.”

Thorne lived alone in her home, as her husband and kids lived in Canada. Waight said Marty had become like family to both him and his wife, who are devastated and struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking news.

Michael Waight

“I knew Ms. Thorn. We are like family. I know her from the time she came in Belize. We’ve been friends. Like I know her kids, they always say Uncle Mike and we are a good buddy, but I never believed what’s happened to her. I was really sad what happened.”

Waight, who has called the community home for over fifty-eight years, says he never imagined something so violent could happen right in his backyard.

Michael Waight

“As I see the blood, I was already thinking that this is something not good. So I tell him, call the police to find what’s going on better. You know what I mean? But I was not happy what I see, I never has seen something like this my first time. Very scary.”

He voiced concern about the growing number of crimes in the area, saying it’s becoming a troubling trend for the community. As a business owner himself, he hopes that more can be done to increase security in the area, so that local businesses are not continuously negatively impacted.

Michael Waight

“This is something that is very, really wrong and bad to the village and the business, because I have a business from thirty years. I never had seen something like this, and this is really putting my business down, and the reputation and what’s going on, and I feel that Bullet Tree has to get good protection.”

Thorne is remembered as a kind woman, whose character would not warrant such a violent death. Family and friends remain puzzled as to what could have motivated such an attack.

Michael Waight

“Ms. Thorne was a good people. It’s a nice people. He never have no kind of enemy. I never saw her with enemies. She was a very friendly person, a very good person, like a family.”

Now the community is calling on authorities to restore peace and ensure the continued protection of all residents in Belize. Britney Gordon for News Five.
